Car ramming outside Paris kills girl, terrorism ruled out
A car ploughed into the outdoor terrace of a pizzeria in the small town of Sept-Sorts east of Paris on Monday, killing a 13-year-old girl and injuring several other people. The crash was not terror-related, investigators said.
The driver of the vehicle has been arrested.
French officials said the driver intentionally steered into the restaurant, but there was no indication that the crash was an act of terrorism, the Associated Press reported.
Later, AP cited France’s Interior Ministry as saying that the suspect was apparently suicidal. A police official told the news agency that the driver was psychologically unstable and did not have a criminal record.
France has suffered a string of terror-related attacks, including the use of cars as weapons.
On 9 August, six soldiers were injured after they were hit by a rented BMW in a western Paris suburb.
The suspect, a 36-year-old Algerian man, was later shot and wounded after a dramatic motorway chase.
