Egyptian diplomats rack up $2m in unpaid NYC parking tickets
Egyptian diplomats owe a stoking $2 m in unpaid parking tickets to New York City, the Wall Street Journal reported.
Egypt beat more than 180 countries to the top spot, with more than $16 m being raked up by world diplomats, the city records show.
New York is the home of the UN, and as such as a large diplomatic community, in addition to hosting countless diplomatic missions and events.
The decades-old problem came to light yet again as world leaders gathered in Manhattan for the 69th General Assembly of the United Nations.
Egyptian government spokespeople have said that they have no details about the unpaid parking tickets and court orders, urging transgressors to pay up.
According to the Wall Street Journal, Egypt's diplomatic missions has accumulated over 17,000 summonses for parking violations.
Nigeria came a distant second with 7,638 summonses, the city figures said.
