A Palestinian teenager shot by Israeli forces during protests in May near the fence separating the Gaza Strip and Israel succumbed to his wounds on Wednesday, the Gaza health ministry said.

"Mahmoud al-Gharabli, 16, died after being injured in the head east of Gaza City on May 14," ministry spokesman Ashraf al-Qidra said in a statement.

Gharabli's death brings the number of Palestinians killed on that day to at least 63, when ten of thousands of people protested along the fence to denounce the United States’ move of its Israel embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.

Most countries and the Palestinians widely condemned US President Donald Trump's decision to move the embassy and recognise Jerusalem as the Israeli capital.

Palestinians see East Jerusalem, occupied by Israel in the 1967 Middle East war, as the capital of a future state.

At least 136 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli fire since the beginning of the Great March of Return demonstrations in Gaza on 30 March. No Israelis have been killed.

For nearly 100 days, Palestinians have held regular protests demanding the right to return to the villages located in present-day Israel which they and their families were forcibly displaced from during the creation of Israel in 1948, as well as an end to the gruelling 11-year siege of the Gaza Strip.
