The British and French government have come under fire for their "collective failure" to solve the problems of migrants and refugees at the Calais "Jungle" camp.

The French government on Monday began the process of dismantling the camp and relocating its estimated 6,000-8,000 residents to other centres around France.

The first 60 coaches carrying migrants have already left.

Social media has been filled with emotive images from Calais

'Heartbroken and ashamed'

Many Twitter users expressed feelings that not only had Britain and France failed these migrants, but humanity more widely.

Solidarity also came from politicans

Caroline Lucas is a British politican and co-leader of the Green Party.

Steve Bassam is a British Labour politican and memeber of the House of Lords.

'Long term solution'

Some were critical of those less sympathetic
