Artist event at German museum cancelled over 'Free Palestine' censure

French-born artist Johanna Tagada Hoffbeck shared part of her correspondence with a German museum, which took issue with her use of the phrase "Free Palestine".

Hoffbeck was due to exhibit at the museum, which she does not name, and appears to have withdrawn from the event after the attempt to censure her use of the slogan.

The museum suggests using the phrase "Free Palestine from Hamas" instead.

A number of German artists, intellectuals and writers have been censured and cancelled by cultural institutions in recent months.

Film critic Joseph Fahim wrote about the phenomenon in a piece for Middle East Eye, which can be read here.

The full text of Hoffbeck's correspondence from the museum is attached below.
