Confront any Israeli incursion, Lebanon president tells army

Lebanese President Joseph Aoun on Thursday instructed the commander of the army to "confront any Israeli incursion into southern Lebanon", after Israeli forces crossed the border overnight, entered a municipal building in the southern town of Blida and killed an employee.

Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam condemned the incident, calling it “a blatant attack on the institutions and sovereignty of the Lebanese state”.

On Thursday, Israel carried out air strikes in the Mahmoudiyeh and Jarmak areas of southern Lebanon, according to the official National News Agency.

The Israeli military issued a statement saying it targeted Hezbollah infrastructure.
