June deadliest month for Israeli troops in Gaza since war began

The Israeli military says a soldier was killed by an explosive device in northern Gaza on Sunday, bringing the total number of Israeli troops killed in the besiged enclave this month to 20—the highest monthly toll in a year of fighting.

Last week, seven soldiers were killed in a single blast near Khan Younis in the south.

According to the Israeli army, 880 of its soldiers have died since the war began on 7 October. Since Israel resumed its offensive on 18 March—ending a temporary ceasefire with Hamas—29 soldiers have been killed, the majority of them in June.
