Morning update

Here are some of the latest updates from Israel's war on Gaza and developments in the occupied West Bank:

• At least eight people were killed and more than 40 injured in the early hours of Tuesday in an Israeli attack on a house located in the General Security area north of Gaza City.
• Axios said the Israeli army has launched its ground assault “to occupy Gaza City”. Citing Israeli officials, it said the offensive started just hours after US Secretary of State Marco Rubio had met with Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu in Israel.
• Israeli forces have intensified their assault on Gaza City, with non-stop bombardment, artillery and drone attacks.
• Families of Israeli captives gathered outside Netanyahu’s official residence to protest against the ground offensive on Gaza, which they say endangers the lives of their loved ones.
• Luxembourg plans to recognise the state of Palestine at the UN General Assembly this month, the country’s prime minister Luc Frieden and foreign minister Xavier Bettel told a parliamentary commission.
• UN Special Envoy Hans Grundberg has called for an end to the “escalatory cycle” between Israel and the Houthis. He told the UN Security Council that hostilities between Israel and Yemen’s Houthis are intensifying against the backdrop of the war on Gaza.
• In the occupied West Bank, Israeli forces continued their raids on the eastern part of the city of Nablus, while settler groups continued their raids on Joseph's Tomb east of the city in the northern occupied West Bank.
