Netanyahu invokes genocidal ‘Amalek’ call amid war on Iran
“We read in this week’s Torah portion, ‘Remember what Amalek did to you.’ We remember, and we act.”
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu invoked biblical language widely considered genocidal.
The biblical account of Amalek is often described as genocidal because it calls for the annihilation of an entire people, including men, women and children.
His comments came during a visit to a site in Beit Shemesh city in Israel on Monday, which was struck by an Iranian missile.
According to the Iranian Red Crescent, at least 555 people have been killed in the US-Israeli attacks on Iran, which were launched on Saturday. This figure includes at least 165 people who were killed in an attack on a school in southern Iran. Most of the victims were young girls.
