Reports of Greta Thunberg's abuse in Israel very serious, Swedish minister says

Sweden's Foreign Minister Maria Malmer Stenergard on Sunday said that allegations regarding the abusive treatment of climate activist Greta Thunberg are "very serious" if confirmed, Anadolu news agency reported.

"I have taken note of the reports of allegations of abusive treatment. If the reports are true, this is very serious. The Ministry for Foreign Affairs and the embassy are working to bring the Swedish citizens home as soon as possible," Malmer Stenergard said in a statement to Swedish news agency TT.

Media reports claimed that Thunberg was mistreated by Israeli authorities, including being forced to pose for a photo with an Israeli flag.

Thunberg is among more than 400 activists, parliamentarians, and lawyers detained after Israeli forces intercepted the Gaza-bound aid flotilla earlier this week.

Some of the detainees have since been deported, while proceedings for others are still underway.
