Trump says Iran nuclear threat eliminated, goal achieved

President Donald Trump said regime change in Iran was not a goal of the US military operation, adding that preventing Tehran from obtaining nuclear weapons was the main objective.

“That goal has been attained. They do not have nuclear weapons,” Trump said in remarks from the Oval Office.

“Regime change was not a goal,” he added, despite earlier comments suggesting leadership changes in Iran.

Trump also said the United States could end the war without reaching a negotiated settlement, indicating that a deal with Tehran is not necessary for the conflict to conclude.
