Trump says US could 'take the oil' in Iran

US President Donald Trump said he wants to “take the oil in Iran” and suggested the United States could seize key energy infrastructure, including the export hub on Kharg Island, in remarks reported by the Financial Times.

“To be honest with you, my favourite thing is to take the oil in Iran,” Trump said, adding that “maybe we take Kharg Island, maybe we don’t. We have a lot of options.”

Trump compared the potential move to U.S. policy toward Venezuela, where he said Washington aimed to control oil resources “indefinitely.”

He also claimed Iran has limited defences on Kharg Island, saying it could be taken “very easily,” while acknowledging such a move would likely require a sustained US presence.

The comments come amid escalating conflict and discussions of possible military options in the region.
