He is usually seen at VIP events in the Emirates, or perhaps driving one of his 100-plus luxury cars, but on Monday the billionaire ruler of Dubai was spotting riding alongside commuters on the London underground.

Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al-Maktoum’s son Hamdan posted images to his Twitter account of him and his father sitting in what appeared to be a Central Line tube train.

The Emiratis were pictured wearing casual t-shirts and jeans and posing for photos and videos. In many, Sheikh Mohammed displays the vacant stare of many a regular tube user.

Sheikh Mohammed and his family own a vast property empire in and outside London. He owns many homes in the capital as well as the Longcross Eastate in Surrey – worth an estimated £75m.

The Dubai ruler is also the world’s most influential racehorse owner – with his Godolphin Stables – and he owns huge tracts of land for his stables based in Newmarket, outside London.

It is not known why the Emirati royals were on the tube, however, Sheikh Mohammed's son Hamdan frequently visits London where he studied at the London School of Economics. Hamdan also attended the Royal Military Academy at Sandhurst.
