Israel aircraft hit Gaza in response to rocket fire

There were no reports of casualties from either attack

Israeli forces launched air strikes on two training camps in the Gaza Strip overnight in response to a rocket fired toward the south of Israel, sources on both sides said on Wednesday.

There were no reports of casualties from either the rocket or the retaliatory strikes.

Local sources told Maan News agency that the strikes targeted Hamas training camps and also caused material damages to nearby homes.

The strikes came after the Israeli army said a rocket fired from the besieged strip exploded near the border fence, Maan News reported.

The raids hit military training camps in the northern and central Gaza Strip operated by Hamas.

Salafists claiming links with Islamic State have taken responsibility for recent rocket fire, but Israel holds Hamas responsible for all such incidents and nearly always responds with air strikes.

Last month an Israeli air strike killed a two-year-old Palestinian and her pregnant mother inside their home.

The Israeli army said at the time the strikes targeted "two Hamas weapon manufacturing facilities in the northern Gaza Strip," and made no mention of hitting civilian homes.
