Israel’s military ordered Palestinians to leave parts of northern and central Gaza on Saturday, as it continued to rain down bombs on the besieged enclave.

In a statement posted on X, the military told Palestinians to head towards al-Mawasi in Khan Younis, southern Gaza.

The expulsion order covered the entire Jabalia refugee camp, as well as most districts in Gaza City.

Although Israel has designated al-Mawasi a “safe zone”, it has repeatedly bombed the area over the past year and a half. Palestinians in Gaza, along with the United Nations, have long stated there are no safe zones in the territory.

Earlier on Sunday morning, five people were killed in an air strike on a tent encampment near al-Mawasi, medics said.

The attack killed at least one child, Gaza civil defence spokesperson Mahmoud Bassal told AFP.

In Jabalia, Israeli bombardment targeted a residential area, killing at least six Palestinians.

Elsewhere, an Israeli strike on a home in Gaza City's al-Tuffah neighbourhood killed at least five people.

Following the expulsion order, a further five Palestinians were killed in Rafah, south of the enclave, while waiting for food aid.

According to the UN, more than 550 Palestinians have been killed in recent weeks while attempting to access food distributed by the US and Israel-backed Gaza Humanitarian Foundation.

Israel’s war on Gaza has killed at least 56,412 people since October 2023. More than 133,054 have been wounded during that time.

Trump calls for deal in Gaza

US President Donald Trump called for an end to the war late on Saturday night.

“MAKE THE DEAL IN GAZA. GET THE HOSTAGES BACK!!!” he wrote on Truth Social.

Mediators from Egypt and Qatar are due to renew ceasefire talks over the coming days.

Hamas has said that it is ready to resume truce talks.

The group says that it will release all of the remaining Israeli captives held in Gaza, as long as a deal ends the war and secures a complete Israeli withdrawal from the territory.

Twenty captives held in Gaza are thought to still be alive.

Meanwhile, Trump said that he was “not going to stand” for the continued prosecution of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on corruption charges.

"The United States of America spends Billions of Dollar a year, far more than on any other Nation, protecting and supporting Israel. We are not going to stand for this," Trump said on Truth Social.

Netanyahu responded on X, thanking Trump and promising that "together, we... will make the Middle East Great Again!"

An Israeli court on Friday rejected Netanyahu's request to postpone his testimony in his ongoing corruption trial, ruling that he had not provided sufficient justification.

In one case, Netanyahu and his wife, Sara, are accused of accepting more than $260,000 worth of luxury goods - including cigars, jewellery and champagne - from billionaires in exchange for political favours.

In two other cases, Netanyahu is accused of attempting to negotiate more favourable coverage from two Israeli media outlets.

The prime minister has denied any wrongdoing.
