The largest protest in the West Bank for years took place on Thursday evening, with thousands of Palestinians demonstrating against Israel’s assault on the Gaza Strip.

There were heavy clashes between protestors and Israeli soldiers at Qalandia, near Ramallah. Two Palestinians were shot and killed by soldiers, while scores of others were left injured.

Protests have intensified in the West Bank since Israel began its military offensive in Gaza on 7 July. Israeli police say they have arrested some 800 Arab-Israelis, as well as 295 Palestinians in East Jerusalem, over the past three weeks.

MEE’s Abdallah Shaher was at the protest on Thursday evening and took these powerfully shot photos.
