Senior Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh had been in hiding since the beginning of the war in Gaza that started on 7 July.
With the ceasefire announced on Tuesday and the end of violence, Haniyeh came out to address crowds in Gaza, giving praise to those who had given their lives in the conflict and praising the stamina of the Palestinians.
