What happened to Abdul Rahman Yusuf al-Qaradawi? Lawyer discusses suspected UAE extradition

Egyptian poet Abdul Rahman Yusuf al-Qaradawi is believed to have been extradited to the UAE.

His extradition stemmed from a video he posted on social media, celebrating Syria's freedom and expressing hope that the country’s future wouldn't be hindered by Arab states, including Egypt, Saudi Arabia and the UAE.

Haydee Dijkstal, barrister at 33 Bedford Row Chambers who is representing Qaradawi, spoke to Middle East Eye about the legal and human rights concerns for Qaradawi.

Dijkstal shares her insights into the controversial extradition of Qaradawi from Lebanon to the UAE and addresses the lack of transparency and procedural guarantees.

She discusses the legal challenges, concerns about the violation of freedom of expression and the potential risks he faces in the UAE, particularly the risk of torture.
