Seumus Milne, columnist and associate editor of the Guardian, has warned of continuing bloodshed if no pressure is applied to Israel.

"The conflict’s eruptions are certainly coming thicker and faster. Despite heroic Israeli efforts to fix the narrative, global opinion has never been more sympathetic to the Palestinian cause. But the brutal reality is that there will be no end to Israel’s occupation until Palestinians and their supporters are able to raise its price to the occupier, in one way or another – and change the balance of power on the ground."

Lebanon has filed a complaint against Israel at the United Nations, accusing Israel of repeatedly violating its sovereignty.

According to Lebanon Israel fired 102 shells at Lebanon between 11 and 14 July, describing this as "repeated and dangerous violations".

The shelling began after several rockets were fired from Lebanon into Israel, seemingly by Palestinian factions looking to show solidarity with the people of Gaza.

Lebanon's foreign ministry said the country "rejects the firing of rockets [from its territory] on occupied Palestinian territory," in a reference to Israel.
