A Palestinian man was shot dead by Israeli forces in Hebron's Old City on Monday after reportedly attempting to stab an Israeli soldier.

The incident occured near a holy site which Jews call the Cave of Patriarchs and Muslims call Ibrahimi Mosque.

An unverified video filmed at the scene shows the man, identified in local reports as either 19 or 20-year-old Saad Muhammad Youssef al-Atrash, laying in the street after he was shot as Israeli soldiers stand nearby.

Several minutes appear to pass, during which time a local can be heard shouting at the soldiers, "At least take him an ambulance". Soldiers tell unseen onlookers and the local who asks for the ambulance to move back. The video later shows tear gas being fired.

An ambulance then appears near Atrash who remains in the street.

An Israeli army spokesperson told Ma'an News Agency that Atrash died on the way to Shaare Zedek Hospital in Jerusalem.
