Israeli minister calls for reoccupying Gaza, rebuilding settlements

An Israeli minister has called for re-occupying the Gaza Strip and establishing settlements there again.

Amihai Eliyahu, heritage minister from the far-right Otzma Yehudit party, justified his suggestion based on his view that Palestinians are incapable of governing the territory effectively. 

“The two states for two peoples is a delusion,” Eliyahu told Kan Radio on Friday. “I don’t see the existing apparatuses of the Palestinians being able to manage the Strip without creating new terrorist cells there.”

He added that he backs the re-establishment of settlement in Gaza, but said now was not the right time.
