In a brief moment of comedy lighting the gloomy days after Sunday morning's deadly attack on a gay nightclub in Orlando, hackers infiltrated pro-Islamic State (IS) group Twitter accounts and gave their profiles an LGBT makeover

One hacker, WauchulaGhost, broke into the account of pro-IS user @gi_h_a_d35 and changed his profile picture to a rainbow flag.

“Hello World. It’s time I share with you a little secret…I’m Gay and I’m Proud!! #GayPride #OrlandoWillNotBeForgotten !!! #GhostOfNoNation,” he tweeted from the account.

In other instances, he replaced pro-IS accounts' cover photos with porn, and changed their avatars to a graphic reading "I [heart] porn."

“Daesh doesn’t like porn,” the hacker told the Washington Post on the condition of anonymity, using an Arabic acronym for IS.

“They don’t like women in general. We just started using it to poke fun at them and diminish their presence online.

“The government really hasn’t been doing enough, especially on social media,” he said. “You see the beheading images everywhere."

The Post said WauchulaGhost was a member of the "hacktivist" group Anonymous.

The cyber attacks came as an endeavour to troll IS after the group claimed responsibility for the shooting attack that killed 49 people. The shooter, Omar Mateen, was said to be a regular at the club and also had profiles on gay dating apps.

During the attack, he called police and pledged allegiance to IS.

Americans, and particularly members of the LGBT community, have been united in grief since the attack, one of the deadliest shootings in modern US history.

US President Barack Obama visited Orlando on Thursday and voiced solidarity with the community.

"You are not alone. The American people and our allies and friends all over the world stand with you," he said.
