47 Houthis were killed and dozens injured on Thursday, after a suicide bomber detonated an explosive device at a checkpoint during a Houthi-led demonstration in the center of Yemen's capital city, Sana’a.

Five children were reported to have been among the dead.

The impact of the explosion was so severe that medical staff had to search the scene of the explosion for body parts of the dead and wounded.

The attack came less than 24 hours after the newly elected prime minister submitted his resignation to President Hadi due to Houthi pressure.

Yousef Mawry was on the scene for Middle East Eye and spoke to local witnesses at the scene of the carnage.
