Female Kurdish militant killed in police raid in Istanbul: Reports
A female member of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) suspected to be planning suicide attacks was killed in Istanbul on Friday, following a counter-terrorism operation.
Armed units carried out a raid on a home in the Sancaktepe district of the city after receiving a tip-off that militants of the outlawed PKK were plotting an attack in Turkey’s biggest city, according to Dogan news agency.
The female PKK member was killed after a shootout with police, whilst three other militants were detained during the operation.
Elsewhere, counter-terrorism police carried out raids on numerous properties across Istanbul, detaining 10 suspected members of the Marxist Leninist Communist Party (MLKP), Anatolia news agency reported.
An offshoot of the Turkish Communist Party/Marxist-Leninist (TKP-ML), the MLKP are similarly outlawed in Turkey.
The raids came just days after Istanbul was rocked by a suspected bombing attack on the Bayrampasa metro station, as police looked to avert another blast.
