Middle East Eye (MEE) is seeking a Weekend News Editor to join the heart of our fast paced newsroom in London. 

Founded more than a decade ago, MEE’s award-winning reporters deliver insightful and thought-provoking content to a global audience.

We offer our readers unique on-the-ground news, analysis and comment that brings local viewpoints to the fore. 

As a Weekend Editor you will be responsible for planning, creating and delivering news coverage for the MEE website from Thursday-Monday.

We require an original thinker who can suggest and deliver new angles on MENA-focused stories, spot stories that other news editors may have missed and commission content that is ground-breaking and original.

The successful candidate should be confident in running major breaking news stories and political news stories, and be of sufficient experience and seniority to assume full responsibility for leading the news coverage on weekends.

KEY TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Plan, create, and manage editorial content on the MEE website.
  • Identify new angles on stories, and ensure MEE coverage is original and ground-breaking.
  • Work efficiently under a range of deadlines and produce content for planned and unplanned news events.
  • Keep an eye on emerging stories, wire stories, and social media 

KEY ATTRIBUTES AND QUALIFICATIONS 

  • Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Communications, or a related field.
  • Proven experience as a News Editor or similar role, preferably in a digital news environment.
  • Exceptional writing, editing, and proofreading skills, with a keen eye for detail.
  • Strong news judgement and the ability to make quick, informed decisions.
  • Excellent organisational and multitasking abilities, with the capacity to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Familiarity with content management systems (CMS), analytics tools, and social media platforms.

PREFERRED

  • Fluency in Arabic, Hebrew, Turkish, Persian or any other non-European languages common in the MENA region
  • Understanding of media law
