Israeli forces on Thursday blew up the residence of a Palestinian who was shot dead last year after carrying out an attack against settlers in the occupied West Bank.

Mohammad al-Jaabari was killed by Israeli forces on 29 October after opening fire on Israelis near the settlement of Kiryat Arba in the southern West Bank, killing one and wounding four.

Palestinian news agency Wafa reported that Israeli forces stormed Hebron in the early hours of Thursday and cordoned off the Jaabari's family house. Dozens of families were also forced to evacuate their homes for hours until the detonation was completed.

According to Jaabari's family, an Israeli court had issued a decision to demolish their home a few days earlier, and they were notified of the date just hours before the operation.

Israel routinely demolishes the family homes of Palestinians who carry out attacks against Israelis, in a practice condemned by rights groups as collective punishment.

Jaabari is the brother of released prisoner Wael al-Jaabari, who was liberated in a prisoner exchange deal in October 2011. Wael had been sentenced to life imprisonment for killing two Israeli soldiers during the Second Intifada.
