Israeli troops shot and killed a Palestinian teenager during a military raid in a refugee camp in the occupied West Bank on Tuesday, the Palestinian health ministry said.

Faris Abdel-Menem Hashash, 19, sustained gunshot wounds to the chest, abdomen, and lower body, according to the ministry.

He was shot in the Balata refugee camp near Nablus and brought to Rafidia Surgical Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

A large Israeli force raided the camp on Tuesday afternoon, leading to confrontations with residents who hurled stones and other projectiles at soldiers.

Armed clashes were also reported during the raid.

According to the Palestine Red Crescent Society (PRCS), at least eight Palestinians were wounded by Israeli fire, including a child who was shot in the leg while he was inside his house.

The PRCS said Israeli soldiers blocked them from reaching the wounded.

Palestinian media reported that Israeli troops surrounded a house in the camp to arrest a Palestinian fighter who was reportedly inside it. The house later caught on fire.

Israeli forces eventually left the camp without making any arrests, according to local reports. The wanted fighter was reportedly unharmed.

The Israeli army has not immediately commented on the operation.

Elsewhere, as the raid in Balata was unfolding, suspected armed Palestinians opened fire at Israeli vehicles by a West Bank settlement near Jenin north of Nablus.

At least five Israelis were wounded in the shooting, including one settler and four soldiers, according to the Israeli army.

Israeli emergency service said the injuries were moderate.

The two incidents come as deadly Israeli operations in the West Bank grow, leading to a record number of Palestinian fatalities.

Israeli forces and settlers have killed at least 155 Palestinians this year, including 25 children.

A total of 121 fatalities have been recorded in the West Bank and East Jerusalem and a further 34 in the Gaza Strip.

Palestinians have killed at least 20 Israelis in the same period.
