An Israeli soldier shot and killed a Palestinian teenager with live ammunition on Tuesday after security forces stormed a refugee camp in the Occupied West Bank.

The Palestinian health ministry confirmed that 16-year-old Imad Khaled Salah Hashash died after being shot in the head by Israeli forces in the Balata refugee camp near Nablus.

The ministry said Hashash was rushed to the Rafidia Surgical hospital, where he was pronounced dead, according to the Wafa News agency.

Images posted online showed Hashash's family cradling his dead body after being wrapped in blue funeral shrouds.

The Israeli army alleged that Hashash was shot when soldiers saw a resident throwing a "large object" during a raid of the refugee camp.

"One of the soldiers responded with live fire, and a hit was identified," an Israeli army statement said, without commenting directly on the teenager's death.

Earlier this month, Israeli troops shot and killed a Palestinian man and injured others during a protest in Nablus.

The man who died had been rushed to a Nablus hospital, later succumbing to his injuries, according to the Palestinian health ministry.

The Palestinian Red Crescent Ambulance service added that 21 other Palestinians had been shot by Israeli troops, most of them by rubber-tipped bullets.
