Francis Ghiles is one of the leading European experts on the Maghreb. A senior associate research fellow at the Barcelona Centre for International Affairs, Ghiles specialises on security, energy, and political trends in North Africa and the Western Mediterranean. During his distinguished career as a journalist he spent 18 years writing for the Financial Times, and also freelanced for a number of newspapers including the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, and Le Monde. He has published numerous articles in French, English, and Spanish and is a frequent commentator in print and broadcast media. Ghiles earned advanced degrees at St. Antony’s College, Oxford and the University of Keele.
